Got WebDAV Working! Sweet!

Sweet!



I love syncing up iCal, check it out:

It was kinda a pain to get the permissions and such in apache working right, but its all good!

    Excellent!



    I am moving my servers this weekend, you have just given me the much needed enthusiasm boost to sort out webDav on my server. I have been meaning to do it for ages because I am a forgetful t**t and would be lost without my iCal.



    I will be able to stop carrying this massive iPod thingie round...

    Sorry but webdav sucks. It's very insecure. I would HIGHLY not recommend running webdav server on any of your machines.

    Webmail, shut up you fool! WebDAV is not insecure. Setup correctly its just as secure as FTP, Telnet etc... Hell I'll bet my left testicle that its possible to run webdav over SSL or SSH.



    The only insecure thing about a linux server is a lazy / incompetent sysadmin that does not really know what he/she is doing!!!

    Oh look - the apache manual states the security implications of running Dav, and what you should do to secure it... I didn't have to look to far for that info did I?

    Correct - it's only insecure if it's not set up properly.



    It took me a while to get it working right, my biggest issue /was/ security - but I've got it locked down and set up right now



    Whatever made you say WebDAV is insecure is probably either the experience of an incomplete implimentation/setup on your part or your server admin's part.



    And yes... Dav works over SSL I tried it, and love the thought... And love the possibility of offering it to one of my customers should they need it. Simple things like that I'll setup for them without a charge.

    Does anyone know the best way to implement a webdav server on windows server 2003?



    Our cheep skate company refused to go down the xServe route and now they have decided that they want a webdav solution.

    Unsurprisingly I've already done a Google search, all I can find are loads of webdav clients but no sign of an easy "out of the box" server solution.



    Is it actually built into Windows Server 2003?



    Im not a windows guy myself but our I.T guy is too lazy to find out...

    agree completely ..2010 almost 2011 it still does
