Mini G5-style tower (NOT the G5 Cube mod)

Okay, a while ago some Japanese guy posted pictures of a Cube he had put into a miniature G5-looking case. Looked awesome, perfect replica, all that. The Japanese are always great at doing mods like that.

Anyway, I just saw this today:

For those of you who don't want to click the link, it's an old iMac DV put into a custom-made miniature G5 replica case, done in iMac colors. Too bad it's a slow little machine, but it sure is a beauty!

Just amazingly well done. I'd say just as good as the G5 Cube, or better. Look how tiny it is!

It does look great. However, in addition to the mini G5, I would like to see a version of this thing with the innards of the new 1.25Ghz G4 eMac for US$699 or so. I would snap it up in the blink of an eye.

That's the kinda DYI style this world needs more of.

I think people who do that kind of stuff are so cool. I loved looking through his gallery. I'm a bit of a foam-core mockup junkie myself, so seeing others do it (and do it cool and right) is a nice, needed kick in the pants.

If I knew more about electronics and whatnot, I'd like to buy an old iMac DV off eBay and do something like this with the "guts" of it. Make something like that "uMac" talked about over in Future Hardware.

    HINT HINT APPLE!!!!

I really hope they build a G5 like that. Wow, that thing would sell so fast, they wouldn't be able to make enough.

Although I'm not really in the market for another desktop machine (looking to notebooks next), I would be extremely tempted by that thing.

    Throw a G5 in @ 1.6

    64-128MB of VRAM

    160GB HD

    SuperDrive

    All for around eMac pricing...

I would have to seriously re consider my PB purchase.

Yes i too agree, as an artist i think people are looking for more

style with the electronic components in there life. Alot more

people are buying stylish desks with simplistic designs, this

goes hand-in-hand with there computers. These people don't

want to stow away there desktops under there nice designer

desk. Go Apple this is something that people want, a nice small

form factor for a mini tower. Something midway between the

imac and the G5. Something nice to look like the cube was.

Simplicity is growing, as well as esthetics, the look and feel of

a consumer tower with the power of low-end G5. Something

to bridge the gap between the ones who want a G5 and the one

who cant afford or feel guilty buying know it more than they need.

You know you are...and you know what you want....
