17" iMac resolution problems

I resently bought a 17" G4 iMac. I love it very much, except for one thing. When I try to play a DVD, the image only fills the center of the screen, leaving over one half of the screen blank. I would like to know if this is normal, or if there is something I can do to fix the problem.

depending on your settings, the movie may not be resized to fullscreen by default.

command-0 enters full screen mode and command-3 resizes the video to fill the screen.

unless the DVD is a widescreen DVD (i.e. it is a FULL SCREEN DVD) it will chop the edges off and give you vertical black spaces on your csreen. Pop in a widescreen formatted DVD and you should be fine.

The same thing happens to me on my PB 17". If the DVD player tried to play full screen DVDs on our widescreen displays, we would lose the top and bottoms of the picture.
