I am currently using a Pismo G3 400 Mz as my laptop. I think it is a great versitile machine, but it is time for a new one.

I am considering the following (all $CAD):

The recently discontinued 12" powerbook combo drive for $1849

The recently discontinued 12" powebook superdrive for $1949

The new 12" powerbook for $2099

The recently discontinued 15" combo drive for $2399 (This is the very top of my price range, and would be a stretch.)

And I've also wondered about ibooks . . .

My machine now has a 14" screen and I'm wondering how I would feel about the 12" screen, it seems pretty small when I look at it in the store. The old 12" superdrive sounds like good value - even though I currently have no use for it! And I can't help but wonder if a 14" ibook would be enough for me.

I mostly use this machine for everyday stuff. The most power hungry work I do is photoshop. No 3D stuff, and no games. But I like to keep machines for a couple of years, and like to buy something with a little room to grow. Portablility is not of great importance, when I travel with it, it is with a car, no lugging it around on my back.

Any comments and suggestions are appreciated!

follow your instinct. i don't think you'd be happy trading down in monitor size

Go to an Apple store and play around with the iBooks. I think that they are a much better value then the discontinued powerbooks.

If you use photoshop a lot you are not going to like the 12' screens, they are just too small in my opinion.

If you REALLY use photoshop a lot you are going to want the 15 inch powerbook (I find that is the smallest screen that I'm comfortable with in photoshop).
