NFL Draft 2004
Well, my Cowboys traded their 1st rounder this year to the Buffalo Bills for their 2nd and 5th rounders this year and their 1st rounder next year.
Normally I would be really happy about that trade, but we passed on Stephen Jackson (RB from Oregon State) and that does not make me happy at all.
He might be too tall, though, and in Big Tuna I trust.
How have your teams been doing?

Why? you got a qb who is just as likely to succeed as manning, plus an extra third this year and a first (probably no worse than 20) and fifth next year.
Seems pretty good to me
Rivers will make a good QB. It'll take a couple of years but I bet you his stats in 5 years will closely match that of Mannings. Manning is a name..he does have talent but success in the NFL is a slippery slope.
Damn this draft was WR heaven. I'm a bit suprised that Kevin Jones went 30th. He should be a good match for Detroit.
My Seahawks got Marcus Tubbs from Texas. I don't know a thing about him..I hope he pans out.
Jacksonville got a good one in Reggie Williams. Reggie is a stud that quite honestly was held back by poor QB play.
I'm curious to see how well Larry Fitzgerald plays for Arizona. Well I'll see him twice next year. I'm liking that young tandem of Anquan Bolden and Larry Fitzgerald

I can understand.... The Chargers, I think, were trying to make up for taking Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning a few years ago by taking another Manning.... I wonder if big bro's jilt a few years ago had any impact on Eli's decision that he didn't want to play for the Chargers....
My boy Tubbs is a run-stopper. He will do very well in that role. He won't be much of a pass-rushing force in the NFL until he gets some work under new coaching. We didn't need him for that.
We (UT) recruited him in high school as a tight end (he was one of the top TEs in the nation coming out of HS) so he is definitely athletic. He also had basketball scholarship offers.
You guys already have two of my Horns; Cedric Woodward and DD Lewis.
I am now a Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks fan.
I really hope Big Tuna knows what the **** he is doing.

Not quite. The Chargers took Leaf as the second pick, after Indy had picked Manning first. SD never got that choice though Indy did. The Chargers did have the number one in 2001 when they elected to swap with Atlanta and drop to five and take Tomlinson and then a second as well which turned into Brees after he fell on draft day plus Tim Dwight and like a fifth or something else. Looked like a good deal for both teams at the time and would have been if Brees had panned out.
I thought the Cowboys trade was a good one. That would be true in general but I especially think that Steven Jackson is not all that. None of the RBs this year are really very exciting. I don't think Jackson is markedly better than Julius Jones in terms of pro potential. They got a lot for that move down and that Buffalo pick could very well be a pretty high one next year, as good of a chance of being top 10 IMO as not.
I thought taking Perry in the first round with Rudi Johnson around was a reach for Cincinnati. I think Arizona's draft is lame as well, as always. Just going off of the first 45 or so picks that is.
I thought the Lions did pretty well in gettting Roy Williams, Kevin Jones and Teddy Lehman so far.
Don't forget, the Seahawks have Rocky Bernard and Brandon Mitechell too.
Rashaun Woods at 31 was a STEAL!!!
Not sure I want to spend my Saturday watching people sit around for 15 minutes doing nothing before they make a pick.
Yippee!
Not even the NBA Draft with all the Lebron hype was this crazy.
*Bored until Fall*
My only problem with Jones is that he is from Notre Dame.... the bastard.

I agree with you there. That kid can play
That's what we need is a run stopper. Man our Rush Defense really missed Norman Hand when he hurt his foot last year. Pass rush should be ok now that we have Okeafore on one side and a larger Grant Wistrom on the other. Texas has been good to us. Cedric and D.D both have suprised. It's probably a reason why the Seahawks chose Tubbs because UT football hasn't let us down yet quality wise.
We nabbed Michael Boulware too. This is a project because he's most likely going to play SS at 6'2" 223lbs running a 4.5 at the combines. Scouting report says fast but timid hitter. Equals Saftey in my bood and not LB.
Julius Jones isn't bad..he's pretty quick. Chris Perry might have made a nice Dallas pick.
And Ricardo Colclough at Cornerback, another from a small school . . .that can be a gamble but it has also proved to really work with some people that became NFL stars . . . with him they are working on an area that hurt them the previos year (2002) . . .and with Dewayne Washington leaving they need help their again. .
And, they are working on their Offensive Line -which really hurt badly last year- with Max Starks, from the Florida Gators at OT.

I always thought that safetys had to be absolutely unafraid of hitting hard at high speeds from a long distance run.
Seems that that is what the stand out safeties are like at least.

And seeing as your location is Ann Arbor, I'll pour a little salt in the wound by reminding you that the punter they chose played for Ohio St.
