Beachball, clock stopping... What's up?

Okay, I am on panther, all the patches etc, and only running Firewall, MenuMeters, Acquisition, and maybe iTunes.

Why does my clock stop and require a restart to fix? Mouse over that area shows me the spinning beach ball. Known bug or misconfiguration?

Thanks,

NUM

I dont know why, but I also had the same problem. I posted a question on here but there were no answers that work. I think steve needs to get a phone call.

Naw, no phone call to Steve.

I think the both of you just need to delete your caches.

That might just fix that little problem right up.

If not, try some of the other basic maintenance tips and tricks in that link.

Sounds like SystemUI Server is dyeing. Do you have any menu extras that require a network connection? I thought they fixed that, but I know that if you lost your network connection and a menu extra tried to connect, it could crash systemUI server.

MenuMeters has a network display option. I'm not sure if it hangs if the network is down (it usually works fine here when I disconnect the cable) but it's worth removing temporarily or checking for upgrades to see if that will resolve the problem.

Unlike, can you click anywhere? Does the mouse cursor still move? If it does and you get no response except that CapsLock toggles, you may have run into the infamous problem of software freezes. There is one working workaround (he-he) for those: wait half an hour.
