Here's my setup:

FCE on a Ti

External drive (Lacie 160GB)

What I normally do is I connect my Lacie drive to my powerbook then import media from my dv camera to the Lacie drive then do my editing.

If I wanted to take my laptop somewhere without the Lacie drive, could I still do some editing? how would you go about this?

How do the pros do it?

well if you want everything everywhere without the external drive, just capture to the pbook. i suppose you could move all the files over from the lacie and adjust all of FCE's scratch disk settings, etc to match wherever you place the moved files.
