DVR-107D install probelms.....

First time posting here!....so g'day
I've a 1Ghz G4 with 768M of ram running OS 10.2.8.
I today installed a new Pioneer DVR-107D drive, previously running the Standard CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, now in the lower slot.
Couple of problems I'm having which I hope someone can help with:
1: The thing will not wright do a disc at all.....erroring out with and error code "- 2147352509". It reads all disc formats fine and has audio ok.
I have only tried writing with Apple Disc Burner, as my copy of Toast I left at work this weekend
Initally after physically installing the drive it was not recognised, but then found Christian Moller's freeware PatchBurn 1.1 software, and it restarted with the "fully supported" description
2: What happens to the lower drive? How do you get it to eject, and shoud it run/react as it used to? The drive is recognised in my system profiler....but how do I access it?
Could these probs have something to do with the Master/Slave/Cable Select switch options on the drives....something I know nothing about
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
