Ok so I just got home from school today and I don't have my wireless router set up anymore. But for some reason when I plug my ethernet cable in at home it still assigns me 192.168.1.100 which was my IP through the router. I have it set to DHCP and the router isn't even here. Is there a way to reset it so that it doesn't pick up the old IP. I tried creating a new location but that didn't help either. Thanks in advance.

Let me be a little bit more specific. The router I used at school is not in use here. I do however have another router that I am using. I turned off the DHCP server on my router here and now I am getting a legit IP but for some reason I still can't connect to the internet. Any ideas?

many cable modems are tied to the Ethernet hardware or Media Access Control (MAC) address and stop working when plugged into a device with a different MAC address (such as a router or another computer).

Was the modem previously plugged into a working computer? If so, plug the router into that computer and look for an option in the router's control screen to Copy or Clone the Ethernet or MAC address of the computer, to the router.
