15" PB v.s. 17" PB upgrade to 2GB 333DDR

Looking at the "build your own system"

Why does it cost more to take the 1.5Ghz 15" PB to 2GB of Ram ?

15" PB @ 2GB = add 1,200$

17"PB @ 2GB = add 1,100$

Both come with 512MB Standard

Both have two SO-DIMM slots

Both use 333DDR

So whats up with that?!?!?!??!??!

Probably because more people buy the 15" and Apple knows it can milk every last penny out of them. I'm serious.

In case you haven't heard this a million times:

Never buy extra RAM from Apple; it costs much more than buying from 3rd parties.

Yeah, a 1gb 333ddr sdram (specifically mentioned as powerbook) ram stick finished on ebay for $120 recently. =\\ I was kicking myself for not seeing it and bidding before it ended.

Yeah, the 15" costs more to upgrade RAM because it comes with 2 256 MB modules, which they price as $100 cheaper than the single 512 in the 17". And it's not just with 2GB, but if you want an open slot on the 15" you're probably going to buy it for $100 more with the single 512 rather than the 2 X 256. Even if you buy RAM from a third party, as Brad suggests, you're still stuck unless you pay Apple $100 more.

I was pricing a 17" vs. a 15" last week and, with edu pricing, there was only about a $100 difference between the two models with all the same features due to that difference. It's weird - $100 for all that extra screen. (I bought the 15" anyway.)
