AluBook 15" Purchasing advice
Two question post
I was cheap...I left the (2) 256MB DIMMS in my PowerBook when I got it. So when I upgrade my RAM, I lose 256MB for every DIMM I replace.
Well I'm at the point where I want to purchase more RAM, as I hope it will give me better battery life and help improve performance.
So now that I am looking for more RAM, should I just purchase a 512MB DIMM or wait till I have enough money for at least a 1GB DIMM? ...question 1.
So I'm saving for a car, want to buy an external HD and an external DVD burner (can anyone recommend a case for either so that I can daisy chain them? FW800 preferred, because that is the only open port on my computer) and was wondering if anyone can offer me a competitive place to purchase my RAM (or any of my wish list items
) at a cheap price. I am only looking for a quazi respectable place
I really only know of crucial and OWC for the RAM.
External HD I guess I can get anywhere...I need a case I can daisy chain and I was hoping making it FW800 wouldn't be too expensive because again that is the only port I have open.
Are there any external FW800 enclosures I could stick a Pioneer 8x burner in?
Edit: One more thing...recommendations on getting a 7200 HD and leaving my 4200 80GB in my computer or get faster internal and make my current internal my new external?

Indirectly. The more RAM you have the less your computer needs to hit the HD. Spinning the HD is more draining than powering the RAM.
I'm just getting RAM for better performance, better battery is just hopeful thinking.
I'm looking at getting this as my external enclosure...that way it will give me room to upgrade later with a second external drive. It's also not that much more expensive then other 922 chipsets.
Besides, you would then have 1.25gb of ram, rather than 1gb.

checking with RamSeeker.com.
The price of 1GB PowerBook G4 RAM is dropping, but the 512MB module is rising...
IMHO, RAM is pricey nowadays vs. last year. However, desktop HD is getting cheaper and cheaper..
I would get a 512MB of RAM and go for the external HD enclosure with your choice of hard drive and DVD burner.
