If your computer has two video cards is there a way to make a program utilize both? So that you can split video editing processing up between two cards or more. If not, could there be.
I think 3Dfx's Voodoo 3 series could link 3 cards with special drivers and software. Worked for games. Video editing... Not sure. There are real-time cards out there. You want faster?
video cards display what is on its screen, CPU is what renders video. so no.

Quartz, yes. Quartz Extreme, no. Quartz Extreme off-loads video rendering to the graphics card. This means that a Mac with a 1GHz G4 and a GeForce 4 Ti should be able to outperform a high-end Intel at video. All by using software . However, I'm not sure if it is able to utilize multiple graphics cards. Probably not.
To my knowledge, nobody has picked up 3dfx's interleaving tech. For one thing, now that AGP has taken off, it's kind of silly.
As far as I know, Quartz Extreme will take advantage of more than one video card, but each will be used independently - i.e., each one will be used to composite its monitors contents to the extent that it's able.
