May 11, 2004 - 15:13 EDT Microsoft Office 2004 Standard Edition and Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition are now shipping. The productivity suites are also already available in some Apple Stores and other reseller locations. However, MacMinute has confirmed that Virtual PC 7.0, the upcoming version of Microsoft's PC emulation software, has been delayed. Originally due for release this month as part of Office 2004 Professional Edition, the software will now ship "a few months after" Office 2004 Standard Edition. No details were given as to the cause of the delay. The version 7.0 update, which will offer performance improvements and user interface enhancements, is widely anticipated because it will also be the first version of Virtual PC to work with Apple's Power Mac G5.

Hmmm... I got the same feeling!
and JR, next time add some content to your post... If we wanted the news we would go to Macminute ourselves...

yep, saw that too. wonder if we will see any serious speed boosts now that the developers of VPC have DIRECT ACCESS to windows (as opposed to connectix having to fake their way through it and then sell licenses of windows on top of it.
Microsoft's having direct access to Windows should make little, if any, difference. VPC emulates a PC, not an operating system. That's why its called Virtual PC and not Virtual Windows. You can run just about any Intel-compatible OS that you want on VPC. If Microsoft were to change that fact, it would reduce the market for the product. That would be a stupid move. The Redmond monopoly didn't get to be as big as it is by being stupid.

actually its pretty annoying... if you don't have anything original to add, why post? just to start a thread?
anyway this tangent is going nowhere fast, so I will not continue to address it...
VPC being delayed has NOTHING to do with the G5s being late-just microsoft being its usual, pain-in-the-ass self... They are probably looking to find a way to force VPC to be "activated" to prevent piracy....
Gabid you are correct, but according to rumors (see AI's frontpage) there will be an additional delay... something like an extra month or two...

Maybe because he'd like to discuss this topic with the rest of us?

I think I heard something somewhere about Microsoft no longer shipping VPC with any OS other than Windows XP... so maybe they don't want it to be able to run anything but that??? Could this be slowing things down - their wanting to tie VPC to Windows?

8. Be descriptive with the title of new threads. Do not start a thread with an ambiguous title like "Guess what..." and then use the text portion of the post to explain. Give your post a headline. This courtesy is especially appreciated in the more highly trafficked forums. Furthermore, threads with no original content will not be allowed. Do not post a link or quote an article while contributing little to nothing of your own.
Paul was correct.
He was also being an armchair mod, which, while not a shooting offense, is really annoying.

Yes, it is.
So is calling someone an armchair mod when they're actually correct.
Drop it, everyone.

It was delayed, because MS just got delivery of some Dual 3ghz 980 developer machines, and realised that VPC ran just a little to well. So they added extra 'features' that 'improve' the 'user experience' which involved adding the following lines at the top of every routine
