Hi,

I (really) want to copy a file from a cd to my desktop, but when i drag and drop it, the copy dialog says " file not found ".

I can only drag it once, cause the file disapears from finder right before i do that.

It's a .rar compressed file, but it only shows " whateverasdfasd...asdfasdf.ra ", missing the last 'R'.

The thing is that the file name is too big and mac os x doesn't seem to be able to handle it.

I tried to copy it through terminal, but i got the same message "No such file or directory", even using autocompletition ( tab ). Terminal also shows the filename without the last 'R'.

My friend can open it with winxp, but i can't.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

I've heard the built-in burning feature of Win XP does not burn standards-compliant CD's. Which means other CD readers may also have problems. I suggest trying to make a Read/Write disk image from Disk Utility if possable than check the image for errors and repair. It is a long shot, but it might work.

    Good Luck

Yup, Windows has had a long sordid history of mangling CDs on burning, by failing to properly close the session out.

Instead of fixing the bug, in classic MS style, they made it so the reading code makes up for it.

Which means *EVERYONE ELSE ON THE BLASTED PLANET HAS TO AS WELL*.

    Bastards.

    Unfortunately it did not work.

When i ask Disk Utility to verify the image, it comes with " The verification failed. Invalid Request ( -9998 ) "

I think i will need someone with winxp and a cd burner ...

    Thanks anyway Ebby
