BMW 1 series

I am sorry if this thread is not worthy of being a thread and should have been a reply to another thread. I was considering putting it in gas prices is your fault but, it didn't really fit in what I am going to say. I just read in the latest Road and Track magazine that BMW is coming out with a BMW 1 series. It is coming out in Europe this fall. It will have a choice of a 4 cylinder gas engine or a turbo charged diesel engine. The magazine didn't say for what engine or does this apply to both engines that the mpg is 41.1 mpg. I believe that is city but, once again the magazine didn't tell us. There is conterversy about releasing the 1 series in the U.S. BMW is worried that it would hurt its reputation and that it doesn't want to compete with the ford focus( which is getting replaced in 1-2 years). I am saying that if the 1 series is going to come out in the U.S with a price around the Fords focus price range, I might be changing my first car to the 1 series for the mpg. But, I doubt it since I will be needing the colorado for towing and putting my stuff in it to go to college. But that would be a nice car.

40 mpg (highway) sounds reasonable in a sub-compact car built to European emissions standards.

    Looks like the following...

    116i: 37.7 mpg

    120i: 38.2 mpg

    118d: 50.4 mpg

    120d: 49.6 mpg

It seems like a strange car to compete with... Ford Focus? Maybe I'm just thinking of the older ones... I'm sure the newer models are fine. I haven't been in the market for a car in quite a while.

If they do ever release the BMW in the U.S.... get it. I'd personally rather have a BMW over a Ford.

Maybe I'm just a closet snob.

    You need therapy.

Obviously the BMW makes you look more stupid than the Ford would.

If BMW brings the 1 and 2 series to the USA, it'll be as $25k vehicles with 180 to 200 hp. They already sell the MINI Cooper for $18k, and I really doubt they'll go into subcompact price terrority when they already have a vehicle in the market and when current subcompact vehicles have better performance than the European 1 series vehicles.

I was joking about the snob part...

I do like some BMWs... I don't really like any Fords. I really don't like the way a lot of cars look. I settled with a VW GTI because I liked it at the time.

Any yes, I'm sure I do need therapy.... especially because I like BMWs over Fords.

It's kinda funny looking, but I think a great business move on the part of BMW if indeed the car's brought to the States. I personally am waiting for the BMW 4 series as I'm too young for the 6 series. Google the spy pics. It's a beauty.

    Edit: meant the 4 series.

I read that Europe would get the 1 series, while the US gets the 2 series. And that BMW will be changing the way they label series: odd numbers for sedans and even for coupes. The 2 should do really well in the US.

    Here's what the article says:

    Quote:

Currently, BMW North America is weighing whether to sell the car in the U.S. On the one hand, it is seen as an extension to the range and an additional source of profit; on the other, there are arguements that importing a small Ford Focus-size car will harm BMW's image; there are currency issues as well.

It's going to be a lot more expensive than a Ford Focus (about 26K), just a similar size.
