My wife killed my PowerBook

My wife spilled coffee all over and into my Ti500!!!

Naturally, this happened when she was surfing with it.

This thing is friggin dead. I let it dry out for 2 days and tried starting it up this morning, it starts up and then shuts itself off after 30-90 seconds.

Fortunately its my works laptop and I have a new 1.33 12" coming (shipping date is on or before 5/20) but I'm still pissed. Looks like the new laptop will be off limits to the wife.

Sorry, had to vent.

I've had good luck with taking out all the batteries/disconnecting all power/etc then pouring water (filtered, I think... don't do any of this without confirmation from others!) over the problem parts a few times and then putting a fan on it for a few hours.

I dunno if that's good to do in general, but it saved my Wallstreet from a whole can of Coke back in the day.

I think I would just pull mine apart and clean the parts individually.

or if that's too much work, i'll pay for you to ship it to me. i love taking these things apart, see if i can get them working again.

of course, i'd keep it, so that might not be what you want to do.

Can you still boot it into target disk mode? 'Cause then you could at least get your stuff off it when the new 'Book comes.

Nope, I'm going to pull the HD and put into an enclosure. That way I'll have my data, if that doesn't work then I still have my backups from last week.

    This needs exactly one answer:

podmate: get your wife a powerbook too, that way when she kills it she killed her own... and hey, maybe it was her 'subtle' way of telling you that you should spend more time with her, who knows.

Tea is supposedly better for hard drives.

At least I've seen a Powerbook working after it had been spilled some hot tea over it.

    Are you getting divorced?
