AsantePrint, LaserJet 4/600, and Panther... Friends?

So can these three lovers play nicely?

I have a serial cable and an ethernet cable (and a cross cable too).

How does one setup a localtalk printer? Where should I plug the network into? Does it need to be directly into the Mac or can I put it into my switch or hub? Then is there software needed? (I would think not but want to be sure)

Any and all help would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Well, I don't have an AsantePrint. but I have a Farallon Ethernet to LocalTalk adaptor and a LaserWriter 4/600 and Panther. They work fine together. The way I have it set up now, I have a ethernet hub, which connects to the computer, my dsl modem and to the Farallon adaptor. The Farallon adaptor than connects to my local talk network. Not only can the computer see the LaserWriter, but I can also print from my PowerBook over Airport. No additional software needed.

Sounds like I can just plug it in and will just then *see* it.

    Sweet.

    Thanks for your help!
