I have a Sony MiniDV camcorder and was wondering if there was anyway to erase tapes. I know that you can record over them but was wondering if there was a way to erase them first. Also in iDVD does it create DVD's that are playable around the world. I live in the US and am going to Japan and would like to make a DVD and take it over there to play. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Robert

i'm not sure if there is a way to erase them, i am pretty sure you have to just record over them, or record blank footage over them, but on a slightly different topic, you might want to have the name of this thread changed, it's pretty vague

Thanks for the info on the region of iDVD. When traveling to Japan do the x-ray machines at airports hurt the tapes, the camera, a digital camera, or a memory stick? I didn't know if these would erase the tapes.

    Thanks,

My canon has an explicit command to erase a memory card, but I cant find one to erase a tape either.

At the moment I just put the lens cap on and record over the whole tape.

I live in Japan and travel back and forth to the US often. I've never had any problems with my Sony DV camera, Memory Stick, computer HD, SRL film camera... I think for the most part, it's pretty safe, at least for me (crosses fingers).
