Alexander traler now up on Apples site

Looks good. I'm beginning to wonder though after Gladiator, Troy and others, if people will quickly tire of this new round of sword and sandal epic.
I trust Stone to not make the mistakes that Troy has but you never really know. Some of the scenes look great.

Who cares about Alexander . . . the best thing that happened to Alexander was his famous meeting wioth Diogenes teh Dog
Diogenes is laying around, Alexander goes up to him, standing over him:
Alexander: "So, you are Diogenes, I am Alexander conqueror of the world, what can I do for you?"
Diogenes: "you can stand out of my light"
why would an ultra-Liberal director make a movie about a proto-Western conqueror (Imperialist par-excellent) of the world that looks, so far, to ba all a rave-up about glory and heroism?!?!
Hannibal and the destruction of Carthage is far more interesting, it is a far more poingnant story and could have great war scenes too.
For example, when Scipio's army is on the verge of sacking Carthage the two great Generals meet and Hannibal gives a great speech (history not fiction) where he talked about the ravages of war -from Rollins 1700somethingerother:
At last Hannibal spoke; and, after having praised Scipio in the most artful and delicate manner, he gave a very lively description of the ravages of the war, and the calamities in which it had involved both the victors and the vanquished._ He conjured him not to suffer himself to be dazzled by the splendor of his victories._ He represented to him, that however successful he might have hitherto been, he ought to tremble at the inconstancy of fortune; that without going far back for examples, he himself, who was then speaking to him, was a glaring proof of this: that Scipio was at that time what himself, Hannibal, had been at Thrasymene and Cannae: that he ought to make a better use of opportunity than himself had done, and consent to peace, now when it was in his power to propose the conditions of it.
Other histories have Hannibal saying: "what beautiful Empires we could have been"
Then the sacking of Carthage . . . in movie land that is . . . after all it was in the Third Punic war, not the second where the meeting took place, that Carthage is ground into the dirt, burned, ploughed over and salted.
Edit: but i'll agree the story of Alexander isn't really somthing for the movies. And the cast looks horrible (xcept for Hopkins, of course).
ps: Troy was flawed, but i still think it was pretty good.
Angelina Jolie=my $$$ in studio's pocket.

Besides the small detail that Alexander laid out the foundations of Hellenism, the starting point of our western, christian culture. But i'm pretty sure the movie won't touch on those subjects. Gotta check out the trailer now.

Sorry, not much to say really. Nagar Brahmins, the highest caste in traditional hinduism were descendents of the macedonians that came to northern India with Alexander the Great. The thoughts of the macedonians melted into the common hindu thoughts of the time and helped to shape hinduism for the next 300-500 years post Alexander.
Judging by the trailer, no.

A truly great movie would be the story of Carthage and Hannibal's passage over the Alps and subsequent 18 years inside of Rome!!
Umm, they are doing it. It is called Hannibal and will be out in theaters in a year or so and it stars Vin Diesel.
