yep its me again - the guy who thinks the new PB resolution is worse than before

Hi - remember me - The last thread I started was regarding the new screen resolution of the powerbook - and my view is that it is worse than the old 1152x768 - becuase for web design gone is the WYSIWOAS

What You See Is What Others Are Seeing!!!

Anyway I succumbed to the pressure and decided to upgrade to the new 667 from my previous 550 (still biting my lip thinking..should I ?? Should I go through with this...lets face it the 1280 x 854 is aweful for me as a designer)

But then I noticed that the demo model in the store had a black edge all around the screen - where it meets the casing.

On my 550 model the screen goes all the way to the edge of the screen surround - the new models have a (albeit tiny) edge of black.

Is this the norm? - or is that OSX for you? - I didnt try it in OS9.2 so couldnt tell you.

Perhaps the OSX slightly brings the screen in by a few pixels all around - creating a black edge???

Anyhow - let me know your thoughts - you know mine = new screen resoultion sucks big time

But lets not use this as a angst ridden thread on the new res - I just want to know if this black edge is normal on the new revisions..or is it OSX that creates that illusion?

Thanks for your replies

Jools

Geez, upgrading your PowerBook since the 550?? If you aren't going to sell your PB 550 then just buy a new power mac when they come out in August (if the rumors are true). I don't think you'll see a GREAT improvement over your PB 550 with the PB 667. But if you are going to work mainly at home, might as well get a Power Mac right? Keep your PB 550 to travel with etc. If you are going to sell your PB 550, then go for the PB 800. That's my opinion.

My iBook has a small black space. As a result, I can show things on screen to a group of friends on each side of me without the plastic of the screen mounting occluding the outer pixels.

There's also no reflection from the plastic edge when I'm working.

Another possibility is that running right to the edge was trouble because the screens are sometimes slightly offset, and a row of pixels might be under the edge. Fixing such cases would be a headache for Apple.

I suspect Apple's reason is that the new size was convenient. They took the width of the enclosure and divided it by a dot-pitch that is commonly manufactured. The horizontal resolution is the quotient and the black border the remainder.
