I experimented with picture backgrounds in iChat when it first came out,
impressed with the fact that it also supports PDF backgrounds (no scaling though)
then I gave it up because I found it degraded readability in most cases

How can it degrade readability if your text is inside a balloon?

Not everyone uses balloon mode. I know I don't because it seems to be gimmicky and wastes more space.

Gee then i really am the only mac user than that use's balloons with background pics then
