DVD Player f'ed

It seems all of a sudden that Apple's DVD Player isn't working for me. Last time I watched a DVD was about 2-3 weeks ago, and it was all good then. I suspected it could be my drive, but VLC plays DVDs no problem.

What happens is when I insert a disc, it boots like normal. But it never accesses any of the DVD as far as I can tell. No menus, no movie, no titles... nothing. The time display just keeps counting upwards and then resets back to zero time and again. The screen always stays black and there is no audio.

Any thoughts? Has anyone else experienced problems?

I've tried trashing the preferences, a simple restart, a reinstall, and permissions repairs. No dice with any of them. =[

I'm currently on a 550MHz TiBook G4 running 10.3.4 with 768 MB of RAM.

Could someone just zip up the DVD Player app and preferences file and get them over to me please? This is way too much of a headache for what it's worth...

You can get a hold of me on AIM for file transfers. My handle is in my profile.

this is hands down the dumbest fix I've ever seen but I accidently fixed my problem. I upped the screen res on my second monitor (which isn't even the one the dvd is playing on) from 1600x1200 to 1792x1344 and it worked! I switched back to the other res and it's all good.

    wtf?
