System Preferences Reverting at random

Every time I restart my computer the system preferences will reset to the defaults. This doesn't happen with major things like "Personal" settings or "System" settings; but with all the hardware and most of my "Other" settings reset at random if not at restart.

Specific Panes of problem:

-Energy saver: Resets upon restart

-Sound: Resets at random...

-Hardware (CHUD thing to fix G5 noise): Restart reset

-Printer and Fax: Random reset

This is more of a annoyance problem but it would be nice to have it fixed once and for all.

Specs- Dual 2GHz (1st gen) G5

- Mac OSX 10.3.4

- 1 GB RAM

-160 "GB" HD

If you need any more info let me know. I tried to do a search but I could find nothing of relevance besides one thread that gave no answer. So anyone know?

Sounds to me like your PRAM or NVRAM I should say, is getting zapped for no apparent reason. Either that, or your permissions are screwed up in the /Library/System Configuration folder. Run disk utility and repair permissions, that should do the trick.

The CHUD tool (to disable napping, I assume) will always reset after restart. That's the way it is. The rest, however, are another story.

I rarely lose preferences, but what I do lose occasionally is my Anti Aliasing level. Rather than sticking to "Best for LCD - Medium" it will revert to "CRT" mode. Its bothersome but doesn't happen too frequently. I just switch it back an all is well for another month or two.

I've seen this happen on multiple machines. Rarely on my G5 but more frequently on an older 800 MHz G4 tower. Don't think I've had an issue since 10.3.4 came out, then again it didn't come out too long ago.
