    Just curious, but does that do something the apple airport cannot? Thanks in advance!

    Yeah, it magically left $195 extra dollars in my checking account. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    There are a lot of things it can't do compared to Airport, but it does what I need.

    Setup was a snap. Plug it in, turn on Airport Utility, done. No configs or anything.

    I just moved from NJ to VA, and instead of destroying the walls and wiring the house for networking, I bought a Linksys wireless router, and i love it. I recommend ALL mac users with mroe than one computer to get an airport. ITs worth it.

    What about the brain cancer that is coveniently packaged with that kind of electromagnetic radiation?

    You really think it gives off that much radiation?

    It wouldn't really be about how much. It would be about what kind. For example, you won't get brain cancer no matter how much green light you shine on your forehead, even though that's also EM radiation.

    I won't get into the physics here. Just rest assured the FCC is full of phsyicists who study these things in great detail. Every radio device comes with a license from the FCC. Some devices, like cell-phones, were originally evaluated according to a certain usage pattern (as car-phones) and may not be safe held against the head hours each day. Those devices may require re-evaluation. The airport system, on the other hand, is low-power, low-range, and was originally safety tested just a few years ago.

    Airport = 2.1 Ghz

    Your kitchen microwave = 2.1 Ghz

    Laptop = Battery powered microwave

    Go figure...

    Eh...

    Airport uses Radio Waves...

    Anyway, I've been using Airport in my house for a couple months now and I really like it.

    There are some issues though, like I cannot host a game of WarCraft 3 on battle.net, but I can join them.

    I'll have to play with AirPort's firewall settings sometime.

    My sister has a D-Link wireless card for her IBM ThinkPad, and my bro has an iBook with AirPort too.

    Of course, that's nowhere close to maxing out the 50 user limit... \

    just got my airport basestation last night...set up the computer room computer (iMac 800), no probs and works great...tonight i get to use an adapter card with the iMac DV slot loading in the kids room...will see if it is any different/harder to set up (800 runs 10.1.5 and the DV runs 9.2)...then all the wires go away and the misses will be much happier....only setting up two computers, so i shouldn't be taxing the unit any....the kids will be moving to portables in the next couple of years as they hit high school years....g

    The insert that came with one of my Netgear wireless cards:

    "...products, like other radio devices, emit radio frequency electromagnetic energy. The level of energy emitted by ... devices is far much less than the electromagnetic energy emitted by wireless devices like for example mobile phones. Because ... products operate withing the guidelines found in radio frequency saftey standards and recommendations, ... are safe for use by consumers. These standards and recommendations reflect the consensus of the scientific community and result from deliberations of panels and committees of scientists who continually review and interpret the extensive research literature."

    Actually, both run on 2.4 gHZ, not 2.1.
