Can iMovie drop frames on import?

I archived all of my DV tapes to DVD (3 per tape in pure DV) a while ago, but when I play them back they look a bit jerky.



I had presumed that when importing from a device control capable camcorder that iMovie would control the camcorder feed so that no frames were dropped.



Is this the case?



If it is, what way can I import my DV tape and be sure I don't drop any frames?

    A faster machine with more RAM will help reduce dropped frames. I don't have a problem with importing video on my 1.25GHz G4 with 1 GB of RAM -- the 17inch flat screen iMac. But I have seen bad frame loss on a PC due to insufficient memory.
