iFire flat panel technology

I stumbled upon this company who has developed a new flat display technology.

My first thought was perhaps a lower cost FP iMac would be possible. Unfortunately, it won't be until 2006 until they start production. Interesting nonetheless.

While I think its interesting technology to be sure, I don't see this as a likely replacement for the iMac (as an AIO) or my PowerBook. It's still essentially CRT technology (excited phosphor) but with a much more precise method of exciting the substrate. Certainly it's more rugged than LCD technology, but at the expense of weight.

I'd see this technology as a replacement for Cinema Displays, especially in graphics and video applications, but don't coun't LCD's out just yet for lightweight applications.
