Finding the manufacturer of a drive

I recently ordered an external hard drive. How do I find out the OEM of the actual hard drive inside the case? The only information Disk Utility/System Profiler gives me is "Oxford Semiconductor, Ltd".

Doubtful. Oxford makes the bridge chips for FireWire external drives, and Disk Utility is reporting what it sees... the interface.

Not having one on hand, I can't check, but perhaps Apple System Profiler?

Doesn't it also list the Model number? Model number should tie to a specific manufacturer, I would guess.

    it works with system profiler.

under the ATA section in the hardware, I get the following (for my internal hd):

    TOSHIBA MK1017GAP:

    Capacityt9.37 GB

    ModeltTOSHIBA MK1017GAP

    RevisiontA4.01 B

    Serial Numbert51678296T

    Removable MediatNo

    Detachable DrivetNo

    BSD Nametdisk0

    ProtocoltATA

    Unit Numbert0

    Socket TypetInternal

    OS9 DriverstYes

I used to have an external hard drive like this and if I can remember correctly, the disk info was visible as well and would probably be listed under firewire...
