External Superdrive?

This may be a stupid question but is there an external superdrive available? if so, what is the cost?

Yeah, they're availible. I'm not sure about the cost now. Just check any place for firewire DVD-R drives.

I just bought <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/firewire/owc_firewire_dvd_recorder/owc_firewire_dvd-r.html#storytop"; target="_blank">this one.</a> To me it is the only real choice since it the only external that I know of that supports iDVD2. Not all that expensive, either.

Do super drives allow you to play dvds? Any external combo drives? I have an iBook 500 and I wanna play dvds and burn cds, but I am stuck with a cd tray.

Well, no sooner have I ordered the OWC external drive than they apparently announce (according to today's xlr8yourmac) that the DVD enabler which allowed you to play DVDs with the OS X DVD player and use iDVD will not be included any more once their current stock runs out. In some sense this is good for me, since I do have the enabler, but I am worried about Jaguar. Are they discontinuing it because they found it had some problem with Jaguar, or because of pressure from Apple?
