Just for that, I'm going straigt to the Apple Store and buying an 80GB iPod and 19" iMac. I'm going to brag all about it and make you wish you never purchased a new computer back in 2002. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Make sure that it plays for longer than 37 minutes. A lot of people have been bitching about the 10 giggers crashing after 37 minutes of play time. Enjoy

FG, you're supposed to fight Ming the Merciless, not Be Him. Lighten Up and let the poor lad enjoy his toys....

Me, I'm still groving on the iPod 5, using it for both songs and files from my iMac 15" at school to the Cube at home.

Well, I must tell you mine arrived today @ 9:45 EST. I'm loving this thing. It's so much sleeker than the older 10 GB one. The new jogpad is off the hizzy! I'm scrolling all over the place, bopping this shizzy in my car, and all in all having a blast. 10 GB portable MP3/Firewire HD, almost wish i went with the 20 GB :-) Apple you rock!

    Sort of off topic.

Just curious as to the process of connecting the ipod to the car head unit. Can you just get and rca out adapter for the headphone port of the iPod to connect to the accessory RCA in of the headunit?

Please help? if this is possible, I'm gettin me one!

Yes, I got my iPod...I love it and I keep telling everyone that I got it. "I got my iPod." "What's that?"

But I've already loaded 300 songs on it, only to remember that I don't have ID3 tags on most of my mp3s so I'll have to sit down and do that some day. Waiting for the battery to charge yesterday was intense. I finally gave up and played with it all day anyway, then charged it overnight. The unit is very prone to fingerprints, so I was constantly wiping those off.

It's a very nice toy, but I am almost wishing that I had gotten the 20 GB since I will have no trouble at all filling up a 10 gigger. It is serving as something to hold me over until my new iMac ships. And since this powerbook g4 I am using has a broken DVD-ROM drive (one of those cool units that plays dvds but won't mount cds - getting sent in as soon as my iMac arrives), I can't rip my cds yet.

Very handy, very small, very sexy.

I am trying to think of a way to hook it up to a car stereo...the only one I've come up with is one of those cassette adapters that plugs into a headphone jack. But that won't work for a car with just a cd player...

P.S. The remote was a little difficult to figure out...as per the knowledge base article...I plugged it in but the buttons didn't work. Come to find out, when you plug it in and it seems like it's in, you have to push it in further...if that makes sense.

Does Apple still sell the original 10G iPod? Sans touch-screen?

Actually bro, I'm rocking the iRock Wireless FM deal for the car. That seems to be the best/easiest way to go.. drop that FM down to the 88. mark and boom you're rockin your tunes!

I have also heard that the wireless FM transmitter is the best for connecting to a car, plus you can take it and connect it to a receiver, etc..

Not bad. I would rather have something that could be plugged in so I wouldn't have to get batteries for another item. If you want to get an adapter for your home receiver just pick up a phone to rca adapter. basically it is a red and whie (RCA) out from a headphone in. Most receivers have front mounted input so just input through there

I'm sure these will evaporate pretty quickly, but as of a week or so ago, my local Apple store sold the old 10 GB iPod (keep in mind it has old headphones, no case, no remote, it's thicker, and lacks the new scroll pad) for only $349.

    This is from <a href="http://www.ipodlounge.com/ar0037_020805.asp"; target="_blank">iPodLounge</a>

    [quote] The Case

I've reviewed many cases and as I sit here with my back to a table full of iPod cases I think I know what a good iPod case is when I see it. The Apple iPod case is both elegant and simple in form. The case is not a fully functional case, because there is no access to the scroll wheel. You'll have to pull the iPod out each time you want to use it.

The case is constructed from a U-shaped cardboard insert, covered in tightly woven, black nylon. The finish is smooth to the touch, and the stitching is impeccable. One-size-fits-all, because the elastic sides accommodate the difference in thickness between the 5GB, 10GB and 20GB models. On the back panel is a black plastic and metal belt clip. Though the Apple iPod case is nice, I think many of our readers will be searching for a case to better suit their needs, provides full functionality and better protection. <hr></blockquote>

I think I'd prefer the scroll wheel to the touch-screen. iPodlounge seems to agree.

Regarding car adaption, why go through all the trouble of an FM transmitter? Can't you just use standard audio tape-deck adapters?
  • Reply 17 of 18
As for the mechanical scroll wheel rather than the solid state, I cannot say. I have only briefly used the original in a sexy apple store.

And I'm not sure I want to invest in an FM car adapter thing...we had one of those back in the day when they were new or having a cd player in your car was rare or something, and it did not work well. My theory was that since the transmitter was inside the car (with a metal frame semi-acting as a farraday cage) the signal had a hard time getting to the antenna. I'm sure technology has changed a bit since then, but could someone post how well the iRock device actually works in a car?

I got mine today too! It really is a marvel... haven't got my iMac yet either so all I really have is a handheld breakout gameboy. I was amazed at how tiny the remote is! The cool thing about it though is that it is stainless steel just like the back of the iPod... the case is very nice as well. This is already an exceptional investment!
