AOL dialup

Is there any way to connect to dialup AOL without installing software. Everytime i try it fails to authorize. The modemn dials and connects, and i get immediately kicked off. Im sure it has something to do with the fact that AOL isn't PPP, but is there a way around this? I have a 15in powerbook, running OS X 10.2.8
