A region-free hack for the Superdrive in the new iMac (Pioneer DVR-104/A04) has been released. Get it <a href="http://www.wormintheapple.gr/macdvd/index.html"; target="_blank">here</a>.

I've never flashed before (oo-er, missus) but I really want to try this so can someone talk me through it.

My questions are: has anyone used this specific patch before? What are the odds it will break my computer? How do I go about it?

The only thing I know about flashing (in both cases) is that you shouldn't do it during a thunderstorm, incase you get struck by lightening. If there's a power failure during the flashing process, the device may become unuseable and impossible to reflash. I think this holds true more for devices that are needed to get the machine restarted (or are required for the flashing process itself), e.g. the firmware used to boot the Mac.

I give it a 50-50 shot of making your computer explode.
