Purchasing advice for LCD Monitors

Now that the new Apple apple monitors are out, I'd love to get a 20". Unfortunately, my wallet tells me that $1299 is more than I can afford at this moment. Anyone have any advice on which LCD monitors are good?

Some rules:

First of all, I have to buy a monitor soon. My current CRT is on life support and barely alive. So no advice about waiting.

I've already decided that my next purchase will be a DVI-based LCD so please no recommendations on CRTs.

This isn't a forum to bash the current apple monitors so please find another thread for that.

    17" (not w/s) 12ms - Samsung 172X gets pretty good reviews.

I checked it out. The Samsung seems to be really good in every way except for vertical viewing angle. I hate it when the color changes as you go down the screen. Do you know a 17" with a 170 degree viewing angle (vertical and horizontal)?
