Did I just fry my dvd recorder?

So I turned off my external dvd burner when it was on and connected to my computer which was also active. I guess this is was a bad idea, because it doesn't read anything anymore. It just keeps scanning for whichever disc I insert. Is there anyway to repair this? Or should I just buy a new dvd burner?

    I can't imagine that you fried it by doing just this. If you just turned it off while it was connected, it should not have done anything. Are there any other details relevant to this issue?
