Sleep of death on G4 1.2 GHz iBook

Is anyone else experiencing intermittent problems with awaking from sleep on the G4 1.2 Ghz iBooks? Essentially the iBook awakes from sleep all right it seems but sometimes the display will not work (machine seems to be awake but the display wont work) after awaking from sleep. At this point the only option left is a reboot. This happens intermittently and not after every time the machine awakes from sleep. This was happening often enough to force me to disable auto sleep all together.

Thanks,

Aamir

I will not help you because your laptop is faster than mine!!!

Just kidding. My Rev. A PB12 had the same problem quite a while back. It was highly frustrating when showing off my laptop to office mates, but I haven't seen that happen to me in about a year. I'm using 10.3.4. What are you using? Perhaps a software update solved the problem...

I haven't had this happen in so long, that I forgot how I got around it. Try CMD-OPTION-ESC when it happens. Make sure your screen brightness is turned up. Also, after I wake it up, sometimes it promptly returns to slumber if I don't hit any keys for 10 seconds or so, causing me to have to wake it up again.

Good luck, and if you figure it out, please post your results!

You know, I've had that a few times too and I use a Powerbook G3. But lately it has just crashed. I think my problem has something to do with the small internal battery. I am going to get a new one soon. But then mine is 4-5 years old. Probably not what is happening to yours.

If you shut the lid on an ibook, then plug in a monitor/keyboard/mouse, will it awake so that you can use external monitor?

This has happened to me on my 1.25ghz powerbook running 10.3.4. When it happens I just close the lid again to put it back to sleep and then open it again. The screen comes back on and I can continue working.
