As far as the Audio, there are many, many third-party consumer and professional USB and Firewire solutions. The one you want depends on the type of work you'll be doing. I would start another thread for this in the Digital Hub category unless one already exists, of course.
As for the LCD mirroring, it can be done, but it requires a great deal of effort/expertise. I've seen several howto's on the web for that sort of thing. I remember distinctly one fellow who had taken a 15" LCD from a windows laptop and installed it seamlessly into the original CRT iMac.
