IRC, MSN, client, Fire?

Hi,

I'm looking for a great free chat client.

Fire seems perfect for me, EXCEPT when I'm in an IRC chat room, it won't allow me to do things like:

/action

/password

it just types those things instead of performing the task.

Any ideas why?

If that is how it is, anything else I can try? I tried icircle or something just for IRC, but it was confusing. I like how Fire works, but I want to be able to type actions and enter my password. haha.

i guess the folks from fire just implemented basic irc stuff, for anything else you should get a

real irc client (x-chat aqua, irssi, colloquy, ...). the ones i mentioned are free too.

(btw. dump fire, get adium, you'll love it)

i had adium on my computer for about 15 minutes, but it didn't do IRC. I know it would be better to have a standard IRC client, but I simply love having everything in one program. One program to open, one program to keep track of, one program to close, etc. It is nice.

However, I will probably download one or two of those IRC clients you metioned. Thanks!
