mail.app access through wired and wireless router
hi All,
i have successfully installed a linksys broadband
router (WRT54G) and am connected to the internet
via my PB with airpot extreme and trusty old iMac
via a wired connection to the router.
problem is, i cannot retrieve my email with
Mail.app. i host virtually with a company
through whom i get my email.
they say to use as mail server (using POP)
mail.<yourdomainname>.org
and port 110
before i installed the router (i.e. pre PB days)
and accessed the internet straight through my
LAN (i am at a residential school with LAN in
my house and i have my own static IP) i never
bothered saying anything about my port number.
i have of course firewall on on my router, but
even with firewall disabled i cannot retrieve
my email.
does anybody know how to set the port in Mail.app,
i tried the obvious
mail.<yourdomainame>.org:110
but with no results when it came to retrieving
my mail.
before the router days, in my Network settings
i enabled Proxies for Web and Secure. i have had
to disable those on the iMac (and the PB is automatic
connect with no Proxy settings) in order to
even surf the internet. could it possible be this?
and if so, how does one set a Proxy on the
router? i am not even sure if this is a proper
question ...
in fact, i cannot even get to my mail using
webmail on either the PB or the iMac.
note, however that i can check my gmail.com
account, so it is not true for all email accounts.
any suggestion very welcom.
cheerio,
adirks.

Comments
under Mail Preference Accounts there is the Advanced
option where you can change the port number.
unfortunately this was already set to port 110,
so that cannot have been the problem.
hence, still not able to retrieve my mail ...
