Built-in mic on Powerbook....high pitched sound

My friend just bought a 1.5Ghz 15 inch Powerbook. Besides trying to adjust to the Mac from Windows he's discovered that when using the built-in mic it makes a high pitched sound....mostly when the volume is up. he's audio chatted with me and i've heard it.

so...what is this from? is this normal? I thought it could possibly be feedback since the mic and speaker are close but i never had that problem on mine.

He's a little stressed about already having to call Apple about a problem.

That may be feedback indeed, depending on audio in/out levels combination. Or that may be some interference with electric devices, such as microwave ovens, TV-sets, FM receivers and phones. I would suggest your friend to try the PB somewhere else, like outdoors.
