Ipod battery questions

I have an original 4 gig Ipod and my biggest grip is with the battery which was replaced twice.

The problem with them is that if you give it a full charge on monday and then try and use it on thursday, the charge is almost gone. They don't hold a charge very long even if not used.

Are the newer ipods better? Do they hold a charge when not used?

Thanks

Do you leave it plugged in to the mac? I noticed my new mini drained completely yesterday after left plugged in to my snoozing PM for hours. Apple has a whole bunch of new do's and don't on how to increase battery life up on their site now.

I reset my iPod whenever it's been connected to my PB. When you connect it, the time/date get set. Once this is set, the battery will be used to maintain the correct time. I found that by resetting my iPod so the time isn't calculated that my battery life (especially while not being used) went up a bunch.
