I am being forced to work on a project for work that involves Visio and Minitab. Are there any versions or programs that work for Mac? VPC sucks and I am trying to avoid using a PC.

A lot of people like this more than Visio. Let us know what you think if you try them both out....

Another vote for Omnigraffle. The professional version will also output Visio compatible files if I'm not mistaken.

There are a few products that may meet your needs

At the high end there is SPSS v 11 for the Mac

In the middle there is Aable from Gigawiz

At a lower end there is DeltaGraph from RedRock

There's a package called R for statistical analysis.

I think it only runs under Fink right now though.

Nope. There'a a native Aqua version of it. It works great. But the learning curve for R is steep.

Do a google search for RAqua and you'll find the native version.

    2 words. Minitab sucks.

Thats all there is to it. I hate that program with a passion. yes it can do some interesting things but for what it can do paying 50 bucks for it, if you are a student (or something like that) for the version to expire, is ridiculus. I know at one point in time there was a mac version but I was never able to find it and since I was required to use it i had to use a pc. Good luck finding a program. However, I have heard good things about R.

I have used Omnigraffle for personal and professional settings and love it to death. Others I have introduced to it equally love it.

PC users need to unlearn bad windows behaviors, but this is the case for Mac OS in general not just Omnigraffle. Omnigraffle is a good Mac app.

Omnigraffle wins over Visio hands down.

I was the only Mac user in a class where we had to create ERDs and a bunch of other data diagrams. The PC users were plugging away at Visio and were stunned at how well my work came out using OmniGraffle.

I've also used it in class to throw together diagrams that the instructor was putting up on the board. It's a serous killer app for me. It's nice not having to go home and redraw the diagrams you may have quickly scribbled together in class.

Depends on what you want to do. Omnigraffle is great if you need to create a flow chart. If you need to diagram a network or reverse engineer a database, than Omnigraffle isn't the best solution.

Omnigraffle and Visio are not compatible with one another natively (i.e., Omnigraffle can not read the Visio file format). In order for the two to work, you will have to export the Visio file as XML and then import that XML file into Omnigraffle. I have found this to be quite awkward (think of exporting a Word document as text, the content is there, but the formatting is funky). Not only does the Visio user need a newer professional copy of Visio but they have to remember export it as XML.
