I recently recieved my iPod in the mail. After forcking over $430, i was very anxious to get it. I have spent alot of money on computer products and most of the time its not worth it. But i have to say that the iPod is the best peice of electronic equipment that i have ever purchased! It is worth every single penny. I am in love with my ipod, it goes everywhere with me. Its so perfect in ever single way. I was walkin past the Dell Kiosk in the mall and i saw their mp3 player and compared to the iPod it is HIDEOUS, its so big and bulcky. I love the iPod and i strongle reccomend it to anyone who likes music. It is the best thing since Record Players.

I'm glad you like it! I'm thinking about getting one, too. (right now it's a throw-up between an iPod, a Geforce 6800, more RAM, or a lot of PennyArcade merchandise)

Which size did you get? It sounds like a 40gig (by the price), but what's with the extra $30?

Ah. I forgot about sales tax (I live in northern Massachusetts, so I always buy my comp gear in my nearby tax-free state, New Hampshire)

I just received my 4G iPod today. and frankly I prefer the 3G over it. Sadly, I already sold the 3G to my boss at work.

    Here's why:

The click wheel feels very flimsy. seems like it will come off with usage and roll down the street. also the lettering on the wheel might rub off over time. As with any push button, the sensors underneath might wear off.

In comparison the 3G was extemely solid. no moving parts, nothing to wear off. The menu lettering were kind of engraved on the acrylic.

The 4G just doesn't have the WOW factor the 3G did.

Oh well, maybe the 5G will be as solid as the 3G but with a better layout of buttons.

wish I had kept the 3G.

I totally agree that the 3G is way better looking then the 4G. Not to spoil anyones party with the 4G but the 3G just had way better looks. I don't understand the deal with the click wheel... to me it just looks like more things can get dirty and stuck under the crevices and it just feels like rubber.

The 3G has the backlit buttons and it just looked more high tech. I was about to go pick up a 4G only to realize it felt flimsy compared to my 3G.

They still sell the 3G at local retail stores but I think those are the last of the models according to some employees but some say they are still being produced. Plus you can get a 3G 20 gig for the same price as the new one and it comes with a dock.

If you are planning on getting a new iPod i'd say get a 3G if possible 20 gig model for the same price.

Loving my 4G. One handed blind operation is much easier now.

I gladly accept the possibility of a failed button on the 4G iPods. Genuine tactile feedback and more efficient button placement are well worth that risk. The only buttons that I've ever worn out are channel surfing buttons on my old TV. These took over a decade of constant use to become sluggish. That should be the equivalent of a lifetime of music browsing for me.

Seems that I'm 1000 times more likely to drop and break my iPod before one of the four buttons wears out. If electrostatic buttons were better, wouldn't they be on most hand held devices by now?

Also have to concur that on balance, 4G is easier for me to use than my old 3G. I disliked how in the 3G there was no tactile button feedback. I can recall times where I would press hard on a button and nothing would happen and then other times when I would just graze a button with a fingernail and it would activate. With my 4G, I know that unless I feel the button click, it will not register. The extended battery life is not just smoke and mirrors, it really has been better for me.

On the downside, the 4G still has no covers like the second skin one I used with my old 3G. As a result, my 3G was pristine when I sold it. My 4G already has a few light scratches on its back. Also, I am not sure that I like the color of the new screen when lit. It seems a little more difficult to read.
