Julia Child, who mastered the art of French cooking well enough to turn it into prime-time entertainment and who by introducing cassoulet to a casserole culture elevated both American food and television, died today at her home in Santa Barbara, Calif. She would have been 92 on Sunday.

This is the first paragraph of NYTimes.com excellent obit. You'll have to register, but it's worth it to read this wonderful tribute to a true pioneer in American culture.

Yeah, my dad was really big into cooking and was by the way a great cook ( his hobby he worked for the state highway dept. ). Anyway we always watched Julia Child all the time on PBS when I was a kid.

She was a big part of american culture for a long time.

I even remember the Dan Aykroyd skit on SNL " Oh now I've cut the dickens out of my finger! ".

A great lady that will be missed.
