i recieved my bto (5400rpm drive) 17'' powerbook on aug 4 and its been great, but today i noticed that the hard drives keeps spinning, with a click or some other noise every 30 seconds or so. i turned all the programs off and it still keeps spinning. when i turn my computer on and leave it alone, it still spins constently.

anyone have any ideas?

When the computer is active, the HD will spin to access data, ex. The OS. If you go into system prefs--Energy Saver.. You can set how many mins to wait until the hard drive will spin down, or how many min's before your computer goes to sleep etc... try that.

thanks for your help Altivec_2.0. i checked my energy saver and it's set to automatic. i switched it to custom and clicked the box that said "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible". even after that, if i sit in front of my powerbook for a while it still spins ( i sat there and didnt touch my computer for 20 min and i could still hear the hard drive spinning)

now that i know its spinning, i cant take my ears off the noise and its driving me crazy!

Does the HD spin down when you put the computer to sleep?
