What difference is there between an 800 mghz eMac with a superdrive and an 800 mghz iMac with a superdrive other than the lcd display and the footprint?

There is no other difference besides an analogue audio port on the eMac.
emac audio input =save $100 on USB adapter vs imac
emac 16W internal amplifier. imac n/a.
emac same harmankardon speakers as imac external spheres. buy iSub anyway.
10.2 Jaguar will reportedly autodetect & configure MIDI devices, so if audio is your bag, and Tower ain't in your budget, look carefully.
and although lcd is Zero-radiation/flicker/footprint (and moves!)
screen res options differ too
imac 15 - 1024x768
15 compared to the imac 17
emac has _5_ resolution choices up to
both have nvidia cards that allow capture from (internal) dvd in SnapzProX
neither has L3 cache or DDR or new m/b (nor likely to. pro only)
aside from the current emac update (superdrive option now), the only likely rev by early 03 is minor speed bump (perhaps 1Ghz G4 by MWSF) and vaguely possible bluetooth support (unlikely to make another case for a widescreen crt, imo)
emac screen is surprisingly flat and extremely high quality, thought it's still pictureframed in a fair bit of plastic and feels like the final evolution of the old imac in its design.
imac screen's frame might be trimmed in future, but so many people want to move it that any lighter would've probably been a tech support frenzy
imac is just next generation in design/function.
it doesnt' need speed holes (i wonder... mockup anyone?) to be futuristic,
it's already waaay ahead of any other manufacturer.

Only the widescreen iMac has a GF4MX. All other models including the $1799 SuperDrive model has a GF2MX.
