so i have an imac g3 128mb 600MHz 40 GB. i barley use it for anything more than the internet. i have access to better machines with better programs for any other work i need to do.

i would like to dedicate my imac to use only for music and internet access. i am currently running os 9.1 and want to upgrade to os x so i can get an ipod. is it possible to configurate my computer using os x to only run itunes and any browser without having to upgrading memory, hard drive, etc.? how will it perform? speed is not a necessity, i would just like it to work without crashing and such. if i do have to upgrade, any cheap ideas?

i plan on investing in a new system some time after the new year and want to keep what i have now, simple.

Yes you can use this machine for OSX. The article says the min. memory is 128, of course more is better. I would just install OSX and only use the apps you want. I don't believe in deleting apps I might not want to use on a machine just because I have it on another machine that runs that app better. My kids still play games and music on their old iMacs and they don't complain.....too much.

I think if you were to look into memory for that computer it would come up very cheap.

It'll do the job... I run iTunes and Safari on a G3-266 with 192MB ram.

    (using 10.3.5)

Even the overall speed is not that bad, considering.

    I'm using an old G3 350MHz machine as a web/music/file server.

I upgraded the HD from 6GB to 80GB and added an extra 256MB RAM. It works great with 10.3.5.
