since several days the boot behaviour of my G3 iBook changed.

It's not a problem, but I'm wondering what this could be:

I can see a blinking icon with a world picture. After that i can see

an icon with the finder symbol alternating with a question mark.

After that i can see the familiar Apple boot logo.

What does this mean? And how could I switch the blinking symbols off?

Thanks.

Probably means your start up disk is not set properly. Go to system preferences -> startup disk and select your start up disk, this *should* correct the boot sequence. I think your ibook is attempting to find a network disk to boot off of, then fails, then uses the hard disk.

Uh... are your running OS 9 or OS X?

Both have a "Startup Disk" pane. OS X it's in System Prefs. OS 9 it's a Control Panel.

Each offers keyboard shortcuts to 'search for boot drives (external)' if needed.
