usb to parallel printing

I picked up a 233 g3 iMac for my 7 yo son and am experiencing difficulties getting my old HP 855c printer to be found by the iMAc. I'm using a usb to parallel adapter cable for the link. The problem is that the chooser can see the drivers for the printer, but not the printer itself. The system profiler show the cable , but no printer. USB printer sharing can find the printer and let me choose it, but cannot talk to it. My only thought is that maybe the adapter cable is flaky? Also, chooser only shows a modem port no serial port. I've looked thru the apple support indexes and can't find any help. The adapter cable manufacturer no longer sells or supports (no drivers) the item, and the sseveral other similar items either have no drivers downloads or the links (including some old http://inf.apple.ect) are dead.



Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. I ended up just getting a cheap usb printer. This site says that their converter will work with your printer.

Thanks reg, I am beginning to think it's worth the $80 some dollars for a usb printer. Hate to waste a perfectly good printer.
