The base is not what was patented. It's drawn simply to show the concept. The double jointed arm connecting a screen to a base is what the patent covers.
yeah, i get that, i guess my post was ambiguous. but do we really need a double jointed arm? i like the one arm version pretty well, and can't imagine any added benefit, unless the screen rotates (small benefit) or detaches (big benefit). if it's just an extra joint, i'll be pretty shocked/disappointed.
