base station features on a computer to computer network?

I've learned today that there are a number of security options available when using the Airport base station, like hiding the ssid and limiting range. I would like to have these security measures to help close my wireless network, but it is only a computer to computer network. It seems on the surface that these features are only available for a true base station. Does anyone know how to use them computer-computer, or perhaps a third party program?



I have a Quicksilver G4 with a Linksys 802.11g wireless card and an iBook G4 with Airport extreme. Both are running Panther.
