I talked a friend into buying a ibook but her ibook falls asleep all the time.

She can hit the spacebar and wake it but a few seconds later it falls asleep again over and over and over. Does anyone have a cure? or seen this problem?

Thanks in advance,

RJP

She should be able to change the time period in the system preferences - look for energy saver and push the show details button.

Remember that you can set different options depending on whether your machine is plugged in, or you are running off battery power.

Already tried that both the display and drive sleep are set to not sleep and it keeps falling asleep within seconds of being awakened.

Its as if the computer setting is set to sleep in 2 seconds (even though its not)

Could it be a permissions thing? maybe the system can't write the new setting to the system?

Sounds like the behaviour of a battery at minimum charge going to sleep.

Press the button on the battery and see if you see four green lights (full charge).

If the battery is 'full', try removing the battery and running only on AC.

If the problem persists on AC with settings not to sleep, it might be PMU, (or possibly a bad latch sensor thinking it's closed - unlikely) but there isn't enough information on the symptoms in given cases to presume either of those conclusions yet.

Permissions repair is always a useful user-maintenance task, and can't hurt.

    Which version/year/speed iBook?

Sounds like the iBook is depressed.

Are you sure display sleep is not set to turn off display after x number of seconds?

Make sure you do not have any hot corners enabled

Well after digging around in the system log there was a warning of a power management recieved a overheat signal and system is going to sleep.

Seems something is a missand it will be returning again to Apple.
